Techniques that may be utilized in Penny's practice include the creative arts therapies and a wide range of stress management approaches. Some of the issues clients have explored in psychotherapy include depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, trauma, self-esteem, grief and loss, serious and life-threatening illness, chronic pain, eating disorders, substance abuse, stress, relationships, mid-life crisis, women's issues, and career changes.

Art Therapy:

Art Therapy brings together psychology and art using the creative process to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being for children, teenagers, and adults of all ages. Because artistic expression goes beyond words, it offers another avenue of communication for resolving conflicts and problems, developing interpersonal skills, managing behavior, reducing stress, and increasing self-esteem. Just as dreams may bring images and symbols to consciousness outside of our everyday awareness, creative arts therapy brings fresh insights into our life through a wide range of artistic and creative experiences. Dr. Penny Baron's Master's Degree is in Art Therapy and Creativity Development and she may use a variety of creative modalities in her individual and group work such as art, writing, music, movement, and drama. Possible issues raised in the creative arts therapy process are similar to those explored in psychotherapy.

Stress Management:

We live in stressful times. It is critically important to consider how stress could be affecting us physically, mentally, emotionally, and behaviorally. Dr. Penny Baron's focus is to assist individuals in learning how to manage their stress effectively and recognize the inner strength, resources, and resilience they already possess to meet the challenges of everyday life. In Penny's stress management work she utilizes a variety of techniques such as deep breathing, progressive relaxation, meditation, and guided imagery. She has special training for adapting and applying these methods to reduce pain, as well as promoting healing when clients are faced with cancer and other serious illnesses*.
